Hi rockettboost,

I assume this error occurs when your try to view the shout history or open an image from the Shoutbox.

In which case, please ensure you have the UI Framework in the Shoutbox options set to match whatever your template is using. If your template is not using a framework, then sure it's set to Bootstrap 2, which is what Joomla 3.x uses.

If you've already done this, please could you try testing on the default Protostar template, and if it still doesn't work, provide a link to your site so I can test.

Regards,
Lodder

The $(…). modal is not a function is usually caused because scripts are loaded in the wrong order . The browser will execute the scripts in the order it finds them. If in a script you attempt to access an element that hasn't been reached yet then you will get an error. Make sure that you don't have a script above one that it requires.
